Your Guide to the Perfect Powder Day

There’s no better feeling than waking up and checking the Winter Park snow stake, knowing you’re in for a powder day.

So how can you maximize the present from the snow gods to make sure you get all the goods? Here is your guide for the perfect powder day at Winter Park.

Wake up Slopeside

Want to make sure you get first tracks? Stay with us! By booking lodging with us, you just made your ski morning a breeze. Wake up in Zephyr Mountain Lodge and look out the window. Your first sight of the day is the sunrise casting a beautiful pink and orange hue on the powder-covered slopes. You’re steps away from skiing. Literally.

Quick Breakfast Burrito

You don’t want to spend too much time getting breakfast on a pow day! Luckily, Balcony House is just a short walk from your condo. Make your way to Coffee & Tea Market to snag an on-the-go breakfast. The burritos at Coffee & Tea are not only portable, but they’re also extremely delicious and will fill you up for an action-packed day on the slopes.

Grab Your Skis

With all this powder, you’re going to want your equipment to be the best of the best. Not all skis are built for powder, so renting a set of wider skis will help you float across the snow with ease. Winter Park Rentals will set you up with powder skis and boots that will amplify your performance. To make your morning even more efficient, our rental staff can fit you the night before, so you don’t have to wait in line on your ski day. Instead, your skis will be waiting for you outside so you can easily grab them in the morning and hit the slopes.

Ride The Gondola

Once you have your skis, you can walk right onto The Gondola. Pack the essentials and use the Gondola ride to get yourself situated. Pull on your neck gator, lock your goggles into place, and tighten your helmet on the short ride up.

Powder Turns with Friends

Once you take that first step off The Gondola, the butterflies in your stomach are sure to start fluttering. You made it! Click into your skis, take a deep breath, and get ready for the most memorable turns of your life. From the top of The Gondola, you have access to a variety of terrain, so spend the morning exploring! Cruise down Hughes for some frontside blue-black pow turns, be first down March Hare on your way to poach some powder stashes in Vasquez Ridge, or push yourself on the rollercoaster-ride powder run down Outhouse to get to the Mary Jane side.

Whatever trails you take, it’s sure to be unforgettable!

Pop in For Lunch at Lunch Rock

You’re on the mountain skiing already, so there’s no need to ski all the way down to the base to grab lunch. Pop into Lunch Rock at the top of Mary Jane Territory for a quick refuel or full lunch options and a mouth-watering craft beer. The menu varies from juicy, slow roasted French Dip Au Jus to a fresh and filling Ceasar Salad. Pair that with an iconic Mary Jane Ale and you’ll be fueled up and ready for the afternoon.

Mountain Views in Parsenn Bowl

Make your way to the Panoramic Express lift to reach the highest point at Winter Park in Parsenn Bowl. Once you get above the treeline, gaze out over at the iconic Parry’s Peak and the surrounding Continental Divide. The wide-open terrain in Parsenn Bowl is both challenging and playful. In our opinion, there’s just nowhere better to be on a powder day.

After a few Panoramic laps, Make your way over to Eagle Wind Territory for some steep and deep tree skiing.

Brews on the Mountain

Your theme for this powder day is “ski as much as possible!” That means being on the mountain as much as possible! That doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your après celebration. Sunspot Mountaintop Lodge, located at the top of the Winter Park Territory, or Retta’s (located in Snoasis) will serve you craft beer right on the mountain. Bask in the breathtaking views of the Continental Divide from the comfort of the warm lodge, or gear up and kick back on the outdoor patio. (If that’s the way you roll of course).

Hot Tub Soak

By now, you’ve skied your heart out. You’ve been on the mountain from first chair until last call, and now you need some R&R. Once you get back to your slopeside accommodations change into your bathing suit and make your way to the hot tub. Soothe your muscles and soak in the sunset views while soaking in the hot tub. You’ll be nice and warm, all while the snow continues to fall around you.

Relaxing Dinner

A day of skiing will really expend your energy! After your soak, you’ll want a relaxing dinner to end your day and replace all those calories you burned on the hill. Get dressed and take a leisurely stroll through The Village to Pizza Pedal’r for the # 1 pizza in Winter Park! Each made-to-order slice or pie is crisp, cheesy, and packed with flavor. The perfect way to stay warm after your hot tub soak!

Relax Fireside

Finally, you’ve maximized every second of your day. Your efficient schedule let you shred every ounce of powder you wanted. You’ve been on the go all day, and now it’s time to relax. Now kick back by the fireplace in your room as you watch the snow gently fall outside your window. Can you think of a more peaceful way to end the perfect powder day? We sure can’t.
