Ah yes, spring break, the time of the year we all need a weeklong break to let the mind stop working, let loose, and soak up the sun. Instead of planning a beach getaway this year, enjoy all the mountain adventures (for families, too!) that come along with spring break in Winter Park.
PS – While you’re reading about spring break, enjoy our funky springtime in the mountains playlist to set the mood.
1) Weather Can’t Bring You Down
Sun or snow? We welcome all kinds of weather here in the mountains! Bluebird days? Bring on the goggle tans. Fresh snow falling? Bring on the powder days. Mix them both together… perfection! Plus, spring break typically means warmer weather so you can break out that retro ski onesie or your favorite Hawaiian shirt.
Pro tip – Sign up for our Snow Report emails to stay up to date on the latest weather with live updates.
2) Everybody Can Enjoy Our Mountain Town
We have 3,000 acres of world-class terrain that can accommodate all levels of skiers and snowboarders, from first-timers to seasoned experts. Plus the Town of Winter Park is just a short drive away from the mountain! Enjoy locally-owned restaurants like Denos Mountain Bistro, Pepe Osaka’s Fishtaco, and Hernando’s Pizza Pub. After stopping by for dinner, head to one of the local breweries, like our local Fraser River Beer Co., and Hideaway Park Brewery. There’s endless shopping for mountain wear and souvenirs at Cooper Creek Square! Everyone in your group will have plenty of activities to choose from.
Pro tip – if you’re a beginner to the slopes, book one of our experienced instructors for a half-day lesson. If you’re a seasoned vet but new to the area, book one of our guides to experience the mountain like a local (and get ahead of lift lines).
3) We Have More Things To Do Than You Have Fingers & Toes
Winter Park offers family-friendly activities on and off the mountain at all times of the day! Our exhilarating Coca-Cola tubing hill, three different snowshoe tours, scenic gondola rides, and much much more that lets you spend quality time with your group while soaking in views of the Continental Divide. No wonder Winter Park was named a “Top Family Ski Resort” by Today’s Parent. Read more about our other non-ski activities here and check them all out here.
Pro tip – read our 100 things to do blog to see what else we have to offer in our beautiful town.
4) Plenty Of Places To Take In The Views
Forget beaches and oceans, they have nothing on the mountains. Take in the towering grandeur of peaks reaching over 13,000 feet, breathtaking views of valleys as far as the eye can see, and beautiful snow contrasting the evergreen trees. Put it all together for a jaw-dropping wonderland. Here are some recommendations for the best places to take in the views:
Top of The Gondola
Enjoy a scenic gondola ride to the top of Winter Park ski area. There, iconic Parry Peak and the Continental Divide sit to the left for a perfect backdrop.
Located near Fraser down County Rd 73, this mellow hike takes you to a picnic area that overlooks St. Louis Creek with Byers Peak in the background. Pro tip – you will need snowshoes to do this trail in March and April, rent them at Ice Box Mountain Sports.
A beautiful and scenic trail takes you to and from the base of Winter Park Resort, along the Fraser River through the town of Winter Park, and all the way to Fraser. The most peaceful and serene area is between the resort and town of Winter Park by Idlewild Campground.
5) There’s No Time Quite Like Mountain Time
We have a saying around here, “In the mountains, we forget to count the days”. While enjoying spring break in Winter Park, the days are filled with laughter, smiles, jokes, conversations, beverages, and enjoying the outdoors. It might be the endless fun, or the Perfect Patrón Margaritas from Doc’s Roadhouse or Sunspot, either way, you won’t care to count the days 😊.
Tucked away in the Rocky Mountains, it’s hard to find a mountain town like Winter Park. We have world-class terrain that can accommodate all levels, family-friendly activities from sunrise to sunset, and inspiring views all around. Located only 67-miles northwest of Denver, Winter Park is the closest major ski resort for your spring break.
