Snow Reports, Winter

Snow Report January 3

Welcome to 2019! Bring in the New Year with a day on the slopes. With both snow and sun in this weekend’s forecast, 2019 is off to a great start.

Looking for a memorable start to the year? Take The Gondola up to Sunspot Mountaintop Lodge to soak in the beauty of the mountains while enjoying the finest après scene in the Rockies. Share a beer with friends, catch a live music performance, or join us for dinner – all of which will hit the spot after a day on the slopes.

Work on your goggle tan and those powder turns – this weekend will feature weather perfect for both. Friday and Saturday will be sunny with temperatures warming each day before topping out in the 30s.

Soak up those Saturday sun-rays before the clouds and upwards of 3” of snow begin to roll in. With current models predicting snow Saturday evening through Monday we’re hopeful that this storm reenergizes the slopes and puts some soft back under our step.

Pick Your Line:

Rookie Rider:

Head to the top of the Winter Park territory via The Gondola to experience some outstanding views and sublime skiing. Take March Hare before picking up Allan Phipps to take you down to the Eskimo chair. Take your pick to ride Eskimo back to the top or try something new and experience the Prospector chair to explore more mellow terrain.

Captain Corduroy:

Live for the carve? Embrace the thrill of speed and let it rip down any one of the meticulously groomed runs at Winter Park. Work your way over to Mary Jane to quench your need for speed on Lower Arrowhead Loop, Bluebell, or Upper Columbine, to name a few. Want the run to yourself while you test that turn radius? Vasquez Ridge’s Sundance and Stagecoach runs are waiting for you.

Pow Hound:

Searchin’ for stashes? Sometimes it takes some adventure to discover the treasure and this weekend will be no different. Duck into the trees, get creative, and find the goods in gladed areas including the Outrigger, Trestle, and Gun Barrel trees, and the various forested spots beneath Parsenn Bowl. While fun-finding is a cornerstone to skiing, safety is too. Always observe the rules, respect other riders, and know your limits.

Park Rat:

Hot laps or hiking, no matter your style there’s a park waiting for you this weekend. Start the day taking the Prospector chair to Ashcat, a small/medium feature area perfect for warming up or trying that new trick. Stop through Re-Railer to experience larger features before taking the session to the Rail Yard and Dark Territory. Note that you’ll need a pass, available at Showcase, to access the Dark Territory terrain park.

Don’t forget:

Extend your ski experience by joining us at Sunspot every Thursday through Sunday for unforgettable après. Gondola rides are free after 4pm and musical acts will be performing Thursday through Saturday. Few things can beat a sunset at nearly 11,000’, especially when shared with friends and paired with delicious food and drink.

Leave the car in the garage because getting to The Gondola just became that much easier with the Winter Park Express! A direct shot from Denver, the WP Express is an AMTRAK train complete with a lounge car featuring snacks, drinks, and expansive windows perfect for taking in the stunning scenery. Book your tickets now to get to the slopes in style – we’ll see you on the platform!
